In botany, a fruit is a mature ovary and all of its contents, usually containing seeds. There are 3 different kinds of fruits: simple fruit, aggregate fruit, and multiple fruit.
Simple Fruits
A simple fruit contains a single pistil and single flower. An apple is an example of a simple fruit.
Aggregate Fruits
An aggregate fruit is made up of multiple pistils in a single flower. A raspberry is an example of an aggregate fruit.
Multiple Fruits
A multiple fruit is made of multiple pistils and multiple flowers (inflorescence). Pineapple is an example of an aggregate fruit.
Once you have an understanding of what fruits are – essentially, flowers become fruits – you can look at a plant’s flowers and have some idea about what its fruits may look like too.
